Wondai Showgrounds

In August, we took a few days out to do some bike-riding out of Wondai.  We stayed at the show-grounds in Wondai and got a pretty nice site out of the way overlooking a paddock and trees.  Again, the site looked pretty level until we parked up.  You can see on the photo how high we are on the leveling thingy.  We just about needed another step to get up into the van.  Note, we didn't bother with the bed flies.  I find them a pain in the arse.  It doesn't bother Steve putting them up.  It does lengthen set up and pack down times!!

The amenities at the showgrounds were great.  Toilet and shower together (ensuite style) and heaps of nice hot water which we needed in the cooler weather.

A closer look at the top of the van and you will see we actually left the spirit-level on top.  Actually, this isn't the first time we have done this - much to the amusement of some 'old mate' that came along to freely share his opinions and advice with us.  #traineegreynomads

Fortunately, we could have a fire as the weather got pretty cold - nothing like a cold beer by the fire listening to some country music.  For some reason we couldn't get any TV reception AT ALL and the Brisbane Lions were playing Collingwood that night  ... lucky for Foxtel streaming or there could have been tears.  (BTW - Brisbane won!)

Day 1 we rode to Murgon on the rail trail.  It's such a nice, easy ride with a creek crossing and we enjoyed morning tea in Murgon. The next day was blowing a gale so we decided not to ride and explored the area and, guess what?  We found a cute little Irish-style pub and vineyard in Moffatdale.  Dusty Hill Vineyard.  The food and atmosphere were fantastic.  The pie tasted as good as it looked!  I am not sure I could replicate this in the Jayco Lark.  Maybe in the Cobb cooker.  I am setting my challenge now.  Watch this space.  'Pie Floater'. Day 3 we only rode to Tingoora because the wind was cyclonic and cold!  Yes, we are fair-weather riders and like the conditions to be near perfect!  We did drive to Wooroolin which was such a cute little town with a wetlands area, popular pub and adorable little shop selling local wines, ice-cream and crafty things.  (Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos!)  I really need to improve my blogging skills.

Wondai also has a popular free camp right next to the rail trail and a great second hand / antique store selling just about everything.  Its worth a visit, especially if you want some Army surplus items.
