(11/22)

I haven't updated my blog in a while as I've had a few family things happening but, hopefully, I am back on track.  Watch this space!

In November 2022 (Melbourne Cup week) we were looking for a place to go camping that was close to home (Bundaberg) and came up with Poona on the Fraser Coat.  We booked a site at the Poona Palms Caravan Park only about 2 hours away.  With the warmer weather I was looking forward to swimming in the pool each day, doing my aqua aerobics and generally relaxing.  I packed bathers, shorts, t-shirts, sarong and, fortunately, one sweat shirt.  After Day 1 the weather became cold and a bit rainy so I swear I lived in that one sweatshirt for the week (both day & night!)  Lesson 3598 - don't assume beautiful sunny weather, even if it is November in Queensland.

Day 1 was a sweltering day as we set up the Jayco Lark.  Finding a level site was a bit of a challenge but on the plus side we did learn to use the 'levelling' thingies.   Eventually we had the camper set up and the pool was beckoning.

After a swim, we took a ride around the town to get our bearings.  It's only a very small village so it didn't take too long.  The little town is really cute and had fantastic views across to Fraser Island.

During the week, we did some fishing (as you can see from the picture below).  Thankfully, we took plenty of food and the caravan park had a great little bar and restaurant where we had a fantastic pizza and drinks with our camping neighbour!

Although we don't have a dog, I was really impressed with the caravan park's off-lead dog play areas and so many visitors were taking advantage of it.

On the last night we went along to the Poona community centre for burgers to support the town and buy a few raffle tickets.

Unfortunately, there was nowhere in Poona to put a bet on the Melbourne Cup so we took a quick trip into Maryborough.  As an aside, I backed the 2nd place, Emissary.  No camping trip is complete without a quick trip to Bunnings to get whatever is required to make a few fixes and this was no different.  We had to re-screw one of the bed runners!  I swear it is never coming loose again.

Things may have started shaky but we enjoyed a few drinks and got things back on track and had a fantastic week enjoying Poona and the area including bike-riding and fishing.  In case you are wondering, the pack down went incredibly smoothly!  Next trip, Toogoolawah.
